Captain Clark's 1806 map of the Willamette River : made from Indian charcoal and sand maps and Clark's reconnaissance of the lower river : the historical note, annotations and modern place locations, 1952-1955.

Notes on and copies of William Clark's 1806 map of the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers written by Barry. The item also includes correspondence between Barry and Fred O. McMillan, professor of electrical engineering at Oregon State College and amateur historian. Much of the correspondence discusses maps and routes made by the Corps of Discovery, both their accuracy and the techniques needed to annotate the maps with modern place names. The letters also discuss the Great Divide Basin and the historical geography of Wyoming. A newspaper clipping from the Oregonian, dated May 31, 1955, has a photo and drawing concerning the reconstruction of Lewis and Clark's Fort Clatsop in Astoria, Or.
